Trace it, then write it

Tracing a whole sentence practices more than letter shapes: spacing between words, capital letters at the start, a period at the end, and keeping everything on the line. The blank row underneath is where the real learning happens — the child copies the sentence with the model still right above it.

Single words or names? Use the name tracing generator. For reading practice, try the missing letter worksheet andflashcard maker.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a sentence tracing worksheet?

Type one sentence per line (up to 8). Each one is printed in dashed letters on a three-line handwriting rule — top line, dotted midline, baseline — followed by an empty ruled line so the child can write it again on their own. Then press Print.

What sentences work best?

Short, meaningful ones: the child’s name (“My name is Leo.”), sight-word sentences (“I can see the dog.”), a line from a favorite book, or the day’s date. Fewer sentences means larger letters — 3 or 4 per page is ideal for preschool and kindergarten.

Can I skip the blank rewrite line?

Yes — untick “Add a blank line to rewrite each sentence” and only the tracing rows print, with more room for each one.

Is anything uploaded?

No — the worksheet is drawn entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent or stored anywhere, and there is no watermark, account or fee.
