Connect the numbers and a candy cane appears — then the real job begins: those classic red-and-white stripes. It's a sneaky bit of pattern practice, because kids have to skip every other stripe to get it right.
With only ten dots it's friendly for the youngest counters, and the reward (a thing they recognize) keeps them going. My two like to "check" their cane against a real one from the jar afterward.

Frequently asked questions
Pencil or marker for connecting dots?
Pencil for the connecting (jumps to the wrong number happen, and erasing keeps it low-stakes), then crayons or markers for coloring the revealed picture. A ruler is fun for older kids who want laser-straight lines between dots.
What do we do after the dots are connected?
Color the picture, of course — one printable, two activities. Kids are extra motivated to color a picture they "made" themselves by connecting the dots.
How can I stretch this activity for my preschooler?
Talk while they work: name the picture's parts, count them, ask "what color next?" and "what happens in this story?". A printable plus five minutes of chat does more for vocabulary than the page alone ever will.
