Teacher Word Search — free printable word search for kids to print and color at home

This teacher word search puzzle offers an 11x11 letter grid with nine hidden words: TEACH, GUIDE, LEARN, CLASS, STUDY, PUPIL, BOOKS, QUIZ, and SMART. Underneath the grid, you'll find a clear word list to help you track your progress. Words are hidden across, down, and along the downward diagonal, with a few cleverly placed backwards for an extra challenge. It’s incredibly satisfying to spot each word and circle it, especially when you find one that’s been hiding in plain sight!

To tackle this puzzle, we recommend starting with the shorter words on the list first, like "PUPIL" or "QUIZ." These are often easier to spot in the grid. Then, methodically scan each row and column, looking for the first letter of a word from your list. Once you find a potential first letter, check the letters around it in all possible directions – across, down, and diagonally – to see if the rest of the word follows.

For a fun group activity, print a copy for each child and set a timer to see who can find all the words the fastest. Alternatively, laminate a few copies to make them reusable: children can circle the words with a dry-erase marker, making it a great, sustainable activity for a classroom learning center. This puzzle is excellent for building visual scanning skills and reinforces spelling in a playful way.

Frequently asked questions

Can we play it as a group activity?

Yes — print a copy per child and race, or share one page and take turns finding a word each. In a classroom it works well as an early-finisher task or a calm start-of-day settle-in activity.

Any tips for solving it faster?

Teach the classic method: pick one word, find its first letter anywhere in the grid, and check the neighbors. Rare letters (Q, X, Z, J) are the best anchors. Highlighters make found words satisfying to mark and easy to see.

What age is the Teacher Word Search for?

It's aimed at kids ages 5–8 — enough detail to be interesting without being fiddly. Younger siblings can join in with help, and the range is a guide, not a gate: match the child, not the label.

Is the Teacher Word Search printable free?

Yes — the Teacher Word Search is completely free to download and print. There's no account, sign-up or payment required. Just open the PDF and hit print.
