Dive into our Storms Word Search, an 11x11 letter grid packed with nine exciting words! Find STORM, WIND, RAIN, CLOUD, FLASH, THUNDER, WET, GALE, and HAIL hidden across, down, or on a downward diagonal. A few words are even written backwards for an extra challenge! The full word list is printed right under the grid, so there's no peeking. It’s incredibly satisfying to spot each storm-themed word and mark it off your list.
To tackle this puzzle, we suggest starting with the shortest words first. WET, GALE, and HAIL are quick wins that build confidence. Then, move on to longer words like THUNDER. Remember to look in all directions: across, down, and diagonally downwards, and don't forget to check for words written backwards! Running your finger along each row and column as you search can help you keep your place.
This puzzle is a fantastic way to build vocabulary and improve focus. For extended fun, laminate a few copies and use dry-erase markers, allowing kids to complete the puzzle multiple times. It’s also perfect for quiet independent work or as a small group activity where children can call out words as they find them. We've designed it for ages 6-9, ensuring the words are familiar and the challenge level is just right.

Frequently asked questions
Which directions can the hidden words go?
Words hide across, down and along the downward diagonal — and a few sneaky ones run backwards. That's the kid-solvable set: tricky enough to be fun, no upward diagonals to hunt. Have your child cross each word off the list as they circle it so they always know what's left.
Can we play it as a group activity?
Yes — print a copy per child and race, or share one page and take turns finding a word each. In a classroom it works well as an early-finisher task or a calm start-of-day settle-in activity.
Can my child do this one alone?
That's the sweet spot of this age — hand it over and let them own it. Resist hovering: figuring out a sticking point solo (or choosing to ask for help) is a bigger win than a perfectly completed page.
Will it print okay in black and white?
Yes — the printable itself is black line art on a white background, so any printer handles it, including basic laser printers. Set your printer to grayscale or "black ink only" to save color ink; the page will look exactly the same.
