From the WildPrintables Team:
This mountain word search is a lovely way to spend some quiet time. Your child will find an 11x11 letter grid containing nine hidden words related to mountains: PEAK, HILL, ROCK, SNOW, TREE, TRAIL, VIEW, CLIMB, and SLOPE. The word list is clearly printed below the puzzle, making it easy to check off each one as it's found. Some words run across, some down, and some on a downward diagonal, with a few even spelled backwards, offering a satisfying challenge as they search.
A good strategy for this puzzle is to focus on one word from the list at a time. Start by looking for the first letter of that word in the grid. Once you spot it, check the letters immediately surrounding it to see if they form the beginning of your target word. Remember to look in all directions – horizontally, vertically, and diagonally – and even backwards for those tricky few.
Parents and teachers can easily extend the fun by encouraging children to draw a picture of a mountain scene once they've completed the puzzle, incorporating as many of the found words as they can. This free printable is ideal for children aged 6-9, helping them build vocabulary and improve visual scanning skills.

Frequently asked questions
Can we play it as a group activity?
Yes — print a copy per child and race, or share one page and take turns finding a word each. In a classroom it works well as an early-finisher task or a calm start-of-day settle-in activity.
Any tips for solving it faster?
Teach the classic method: pick one word, find its first letter anywhere in the grid, and check the neighbors. Rare letters (Q, X, Z, J) are the best anchors. Highlighters make found words satisfying to mark and easy to see.
What age is the Mountains Word Search for?
It's aimed at kids ages 5–8 — enough detail to be interesting without being fiddly. Younger siblings can join in with help, and the range is a guide, not a gate: match the child, not the label.
Is the Mountains Word Search printable free?
Yes — the Mountains Word Search is completely free to download and print. There's no account, sign-up or payment required. Just open the PDF and hit print.
