Farmers Market Scavenger Hunt — free printable scavenger hunt for kids to print and color at home

Add a name, change the title, edit the list and print your own version — free, in your browser.

Welcome to the WildPrintables Farmers Market Scavenger Hunt checklist! This free printable page features a colorful banner at the top, clearly titled "Farmers Market Scavenger Hunt." Below the title, the instruction "Check off each one you find!" guides young explorers. The checklist itself contains 12 distinct farmers market items, each with its own checkbox. Kids will love the satisfaction of finding and marking off colorful produce like the Red Apple, Orange Carrot, Yellow Corn, Green Beans, and vibrant Blueberries. The list continues with Purple Grapes, Brown Potato, White Onion, Pink Radish, and Blackberries, culminating in the exciting finds of a Tall Sunflower and a Round Pumpkin.

This scavenger hunt is designed to be tackled item by item, with each successful find adding to the child's sense of accomplishment. Encourage your child to focus on one color or item description at a time, perhaps starting with all the fruits, then moving onto vegetables, or even trying to find items that share a similar color first. The bold outlines and clear illustrations make each item easy to identify, even for younger children, fostering visual discrimination and focused observation as they navigate the market.

To get the most out of this printable, consider laminating the page after printing, or slipping it into a clear page protector. This allows children to use a dry-erase marker to check off their finds, making the scavenger hunt reusable for multiple market visits or for different children. It’s an excellent way to build early literacy skills by connecting written words with real-world objects, while also encouraging a fun and active exploration of healthy foods.

Frequently asked questions

What if we can't find one of the items?

Make it a wildcard: substitute the closest thing you can find and have your child argue the case ("this counts because…"). The negotiation is more fun — and more language practice — than the finding.

What does a scavenger hunt teach?

Observation, vocabulary and stick-with-it persistence: reading (or hearing) each item, holding it in mind, and scanning the world for it is genuinely demanding attention work — dressed up as a game kids beg to repeat.

My preschooler gives up halfway through. Is that normal?

Completely. Attention at this age comes in bursts — leave the page out and it'll often get a second visit later. Praising the effort ("you worked on that a long time!") rather than the result builds the staying power.

Will it print okay in black and white?

Yes — the printable itself is black line art on a white background, so any printer handles it, including basic laser printers. Set your printer to grayscale or "black ink only" to save color ink; the page will look exactly the same.
